Our Stroy
Great business start from own problem
After completing my academic career in Bangalore, I returned to Kolkata. During that time, I kept wondering what to do next. A few days later, I decided to revisit the old streets of my childhood and started exploring the city once again.
One day, while passing through Sealdah, I suddenly caught a strong aroma — it was Shutki (dry fish). I have always loved that dish. My grandmother used to cook it for us — what an unforgettable taste it was!
That moment brought back a flood of childhood memories, and without hesitation, I bought 1 kg of it.
Back home, I tried to recreate the recipe. Luckily, I found my grandmother’s old cooking handbook. But something felt off — the description didn’t match. As I started preparing the dish, I noticed the poor quality of the fish and a very unpleasant smell.
The water turned reddish-yellow.
At that moment, I realized it was contaminated with chemicals.
That experience made me question — where can I find authentic Shutki?
I began searching, but most of the products in the market lacked quality.- Later, I visited Andhra Pradesh for a friend’s wedding, where I discovered a local market dedicated to Shutki. I purchased 3 kg and returned home after a week.
- This time, when I cooked it, the result was completely different. The fish was perfect — just like the taste from my childhood.
- That’s when an idea struck me — why not build a business around authentic, high-quality Shutki? There are so many people like me who crave that real taste but struggle to find it.
- If I could solve this problem by delivering clean, chemical-free, and premium-quality fish, it could make a difference. And that’s how Fishcraft was born.
